A classic Shiraz from the YV

A full-bodied and robust Shiraz with velvety tannins that provide a smooth texture while maintaining excellent structure. It has a beautiful aroma of ripe blackberries, plums and cassis complemented by hints of black pepper and spicy oak.

A go-to Shiraz for catching up with friends. Enjoy with roasted winter veggies and aged cheeses.

Tasting Notes

The 2023 Estate Shiraz exhibits a rich and intense colour in the glass. The nose is expressive and layered, offering a bouquet of dark fruit aromas: ripe blackberries, plums and cassis dominate, complemented by hints of black pepper and subtle spicy oak. There is a whisper of dried herbs, adding depth and complexity to the berry and plum profile. A delicate floral note of violets lingers in the background, enhancing its aromatic appeal.

On the palate, this shiraz is full-bodied and robust with velvety tannins that provide a smooth texture, while maintaining excellent structure. Dark fruit flavours of blackberry and blueberry are at the forefront, with nuances of black liquorice and cedar adding depth. A gentle spiciness rounds out the flavour profile. The finish is long, lingering and fresh with a final burst of dark fruit and spice. Soft and persistent tannins provide a satisfying end.

Harvested by hand and machine picked in the first week of April 2023. 33% whole bunch crush, in a small stainless steel open fermenter, pressed off after 14 days and put into oak for malolactic fermentation. Approximately 40% new oak was used. The balance was fully de-stemmed. All were pressed off after 18 days on skins and put to oak for malolactic fermentation.
